A pregnant woman was allegedly shot dead in Akure, Ondo state capital.
The incident occurred around 6pm on Tuesday evening when a policeman attached to the Ijapo Police Post, demanded a N20 bribe from the driver of the cab conveying the woman to her destination.
The policeman who became furious after the driver of the cab refused to give the bribe fired a shor which pierced through the car and hit the pregnant woman sitting in the front of the car. The pregnant was rushed to a government hospital where she was confirmed dead.
A source said"The police, sensing the gravity of what he has done took to his heels to avoid being lynched by angry people around. The angry mob, however went to the station and destroyed the police post.
The Ondo state Police PRO, Mr Ogodo Wole confirmed the incident and said the officer had been dismissed.
