BENIN-ORE ACCIDENT: MASS BURIAL FOR MORE THAN FIFTY BODIES


IT was anguish as victims of  recent accident which occurred at Ugbogui village, along the Benin- Ore Road, were given mass burial at First Cemetery along the First East Circular in Benin-City yesterday.
51 bodies were buried after a memorial service conducted by Rev. Barnabas Chukwukere of the End Time Soul Ministry, Benin-City.
The accident, which claimed the lives of the victims, involved a luxury bus, an articulated vehicle and a fuel-laden petrol tanker, occurred at about 1:30 pm on Friday, April 5.
Apart from those who were in the ill-fated vehicles, some passers-by were among the dead while properties worth millions of Naira were burnt in the ensuing inferno.
Speaking at the scene of the mass burial, the Chief Mortician of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Mr. Wilfred Aikhonogie, disclosed that 51 of the 53 bodies of the victims were interred as they could not be identified while two victims, who were recognized, were released to their families.
At the scene of the accident, family members and friends of the victims, clad in black attires, were inconsolable..
