LIGHTENING KILL SS3 STUDENT IN LAGOS

Thunder lightening has killed a female student of a Muslim College, located in Oworonsoki area of Lagos State. The deceased identified as Celestine Farotide, who was in the Senior Secondary School 111 was struck dead in the school premises. The sister of the deceased, Idowu Adegbite, who wailed uncontrollably about the calamity said her sister had tall dreams of becoming a great person in life.
According to her: “We were called upon from home that my sister fell down and that we should come to Gbagada General Hospital. On getting there, we met my sister, 19-year-old girl dead. “I thought she would live to become a great person like she normally aspired to be.” She said they were told that the girl might have been struck by thunder lightening as she fell immediately it occurred, while she lamented the death of her sister. As people pondered over the tragic incident, there was still wailing and lamentation in the school, where the incident occurred with the students looking apprehensive.
The students, who regretted the incident said it was the first time that type of incident that disrupted academic activities in the school would happen. Although, the school authorities refused to comment on the incident as they referred journalists to the Education District, a student of the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred around 8.00am on Tuesday shortly after the morning assembly, while the students were still outside their classrooms.
He confirmed that thunder struck and waves of shock swept round the school while the victim, Celestine was killed immediately. A community leader in the area, Mr. Babajide Kabiawu said there was a series of lightening around 8.00am during the rainfall, saying a high tension poll was struck by the thunder, while several items were destroyed. Kabiawu explained that passers-by at Olokomeji area had to quickly drop their umbrellas, when the lightning struck, as they felt some shock in their body.
