UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI LECTURER SHOT DEAD
Mr Muritala Muhammed, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Maiduguri has beed killed by unknown gunmen on his way home when they tried to snatch his car from him in Maiduguri, Borno state.
Mr Muhammed was killed near his house at the 202 housing estate opposite the University.
Sources said the gunmen who rode on a tricycle waylaid him as he was approaching his house and tried to forcefully take the car from him. He was shot as he was trying to resist them and the gunmen drove away with his car.
His corpse has since been deposited at the mortuary and will be buried according to Islamic rites.

A man was shot dead at the wedding ceremony of his two daughters by unknown gunmen in Damboa town in Damboa LGA of Borno state.

MADAM BURNS MAID'S BUTTOCKS FOR BEING "PROMISCUOUS"
A wicked and callous Madam Ekaette burns her maid buttocks and arms for being "promiscuous".
The maid,14 year old Otonbong Edet John said she was receiving a call on her phone when her madam asked her who was on the phone and she said it was one of her friends. Not believing her, her madam called back the number only to discover that it was a male voice that answered.
Otonbong said"But madam didn't believe and started beating me. So I ran and stayed somwhere with my friend. A Nine year old boy, Henry Goodnews committed suicide. The incident occurred in Jos North LGA of Platean State. Saturday Tribune gathered that the incident occurred at about 11:00am on Tuesday when the deceased's parents had both gone out. His body was said to have been found dangling from a rope within the premises by one of the occupants. Saturday Tribune gathered that the body of the boy was found with a belt wound around his neck. The belt itself was tied to a rope usually used for drying clothes after washing. A bucket of water was also said to have been found beside him which suggest that perhaps he was about to his bath before the incident.

American rapper Lil Wayne has revealed that he is epileptic and as a result he is prone to seizures when he doesn't have enough rest and overworks himself.

A retired soldier and his wfe has been reportedly killed by their 32-year old lunatic daughter in Oleh, Isoko Local Government Area of Delta State.
Sources said the retired Army Warrant Officer Mr Johan Elili and his wife gave up the ghost after been hit with a pestle by the daughter whose name was given as Elo.
The lifeless body of the couple were reportedly discovered by a neighbour who has gone to purchase some items from the deceased couple's shop. The neighbour had, after knocking at their door for several minutes without response peeped into the house and was shocked to find the husband and wife lying in a pool of blood.
The source said the woman raised alarm which drew the attention of people in the neighbourhood, adding that the last they knew or heard about the family was when the retired officer came out to drag his daughter who ran outside naked, back into the house and locked her up.
Meanwhile, the said Elo had been detained at the Oleh Police station. She was alleged to have told the detectives that she killed her parents because they hated her.

A new baby boy delivered by a mentally challenged woman, Sayo Jimoh has been named after Gov Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state.
The woman was one of the mentally challenged persons picked from the street around Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and taken to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo for treament under the directive and sponsorship of rhe state governor, Ogbeni Aregbesola.
The Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital assured the government and the family of the mentally challenged woman that adequate medical attention will be given to the woman and her baby.

OSUN GOVT: OYINLOLA'S ERA WAS A WASTE
Osun State Government has described the seven and half years of Peoples Democratic Party reign in the State as a disaster saying nothing tangible was done to give the People of the State dividends of democracy. The State commissioner for information and strategy, Mr Sunday Akere stated this while reacting to a statement allegedly credited to the PDP chairman in the State, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, that the party would chase Governor Rauf Aregbesola from office come 2014 over his wasteful government resources to frivolous projects. Akere said OlaoluwaLs sataement was a mrer dream which could not come to pass. He noted that Aregbesola was fully committed to the development of the state, adding that the State government had turned the state into a construction site. 24 years imprisonment for Nigeria's Henry Okah
Nigeria's Henry Okah has been sentenced to 24years imprisonment by South Guateng High Court in Johannesburg, South Africa.
"Effectively, the accused(Okah) is therefor sentenced to 24 years imprisonment", Judge Neels Classen said as he handed down sentence.
On 21 January, Okah was found guilty of terrorism including engaging in terrorist activities, and delivering, placing and detonating an explosive device.
The charges related to two car bombs in Abuja, Nigeria in which 12 people were killed and 36 injured on October 1, 2010. The second bombing took place in Warri at a post amnesty dialogue meeting.
Classen sentenced Okah to 12 years imprisonment for each of the bombings and 13 years for the threats made to the South Africa government after his arrest in October 2010. The 13 years would run concurrently with the 24 years.
Okah has denied any involvement, claiming the charges against him were politically motivated.

57 year old man rapes 8 year old girl
A 57year old man, Raphael Omada, has been arrested by the police in Benin for allegedly assaulting an eight year old girl.
The suspect, who was paraded before journalists at the State Police command headquarters by the State commissioner of police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo yeaterday confessed to the crime, adding that it was the first time and only occurrence.
Narrating his involvement in the crime, Omada who hails from Nsukka Enugu State said on the fateful day, he cashed in on the absence of his wife and children who were away in farm, lured the girl into his bedroom and inserted his middle finger into her private parts. He, however denied having sex with her.

TWO SERIAL ROBBERS SENTENCED TO 84 IMPRISONMENT
A Lagos High Court in Ikeja on Monday sentenced two serial robbers, Kazeem Jayesinmi and Babajide Popoola to 42 years imprisonment each for a robbery operation they carried out in Ikorodu Dec 7, 2009.
They were identified by the victim of their crime, Mr Aaron Okunlade, after they were arrested for another operation and presented for inspection parade at Igbogbo police station on Dec 29, 2009. Each of Jayesinmi(33) and Popoola(27) was sentenced to 21Years for each of the offences of conspiracy to rob and robbery.
The trial Judge, Justice Latefaat Okunnu said the Sentence should run concurrently.

Gov Akpabio, Tuface and the Vendor man.
I didn't write this out of jealousy or bitterness but out of my concern for the less-priviledged or people in need and am not blaming anyone for anything. "I now defecate, urinate through my abdomen". Those are the words of a Newspaper vendor hit by truck 10 years ago. The full story is on page 14 of Sunday Tribune. The vendor,hit by a truck along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway needs N6 million to regain his manhood and of course his normal life but no help has come his way since then, he was given just N1,000 by a good samaritan who deposited the money into his bank account. This man, according to him is from Akwa-Ibom state and has written 2 unanswered letters to the Governor of his State,Godswill Akpabio on August 25,2012 and Octobet 16, 2012 respectively. This same Governor who can not spare N6million for a man who is dying gradually now gave out 2 prado jeep worth millions of naira and a cheque of N3million to sponsor Tuface's family member to Dubai for his wedding. On page 28 of the same Sunday Tribune, according to Tuface" I knew the governor is used to helping the down-trodden. I had also known him before now that he has a noble mind. Gov Akpabio felt that as a new couple we would need all the financial assistance we get"

PASTOR IMPREGNATED FOUR WOMEN IN THREE YEARS.
Titilayo Oluokun,a prophetess has pleaded with an Agege Grade 'A' customary court to dissolve her 22 year old marriage. The 51 year old woman who lives at 8, Aina street, Agbado,Lagos told the court that her husband, a pastor is randy.
"Four women had four children for my husband in the last three years. He also has numerous girlfriends. I know some of his girlfriends because they live on my street" the applicant narrated. "I was in church sometime in 2009 when a woman came with three children, claiming they belonged to my husband and that my husband neglected her.
"It was a thing of shame because I am the founder of the church and also a prophetess while my husband is one of the pastors. I gave the woman N20,000 and begged her. I told her not to come to the church to disturb me again.
"In the other customary court I took him to in 2011 he was asked to write an undertaking that he won't impregnate any woman again. To my surprise he impregnated 2 women after. That was when I knew I had to call it quit with him. I had him arrested sometime last year because he wnated to stab me and from the police station he was asked to move his things out of my house.
The wife wanted the marriage dissoled and the custody of the children. The husband, Adewale didn't appear in court for the third time since the proceedings started.. Court president, Mr Emmanuel Shokunle adjourned the case to April 3 for further hearing.

Nigerian Novelist and Poet Chinua Achebe who first made his mark in 1958 novel "Things fall apart" has reportedly died aged 82.
Reports from Nigeria suggest he died this morning at a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts of an undisclosed ailment. Sources quoted in the Premiun Times said he had been unwell for some time and was hospitalized earlier this week.
Right up until his death Achebe worked as Professor of Africana studies at Brown University and was the David and Marianna university Professor. Achebe is known as the "Father of modern African literature" and made his name writing about the history of Nigeria.

EFCC ARRAIGNS THREE PASTORS OVER N7.9M FRAUD IN LAGOS
Three pastors David Eshiet, Samson Ugbara and Adesanmi Adepoju were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged N7.9million fraud. The defendants who were arraigned before Justtice Olabisi Akinlade of an Ikeja High Court are facing a six count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, forgery and uttering.
The defendants were charged by the anti-graft agency alongside their company, Prince and Zion International Service Ltd.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges proffered against them. The trio were accused of defrauding their victims the sum under the pretense of helping them secure large sum of money as loan.
The EFCC counsel, Mr Ben Ubi alleged that the defendants had conspired among themselves to fraudulently obtain N4million and 25,000 US dollars(N3.9million) from an Angel Estate Residents Development Association in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson Okojie who is obviously having a blast in the United States of America, is at the conclusive stage of departure. She has has finalized her plan to return to Nigeria with her baby by the middle of April 2013. According to Peculiar Magazine source in the US, the mother of one has bought her return ticket to Nigeria and she is set to leave in a week or two. Purity Ozioma Okojie is 3mths and 2wks old. The mother of one visited the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC on Friday.
Peculiar Magazine gathered she went there to secure a Nigeria Passport for the little baby girl in order to travel back home. Purity was born in John Hopkins Hospital Baltimore, Maryland which makes her a US nationale and needs a Nigerian passport to be allowed entry into Nigeria her mother's country.

NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT SITES HACKED
Pakistani hackers of the Pak Cyber Eaglez group have breached and defaced four Nigerian government websites.
The targets, according to Hack Read are the sites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs(mfa.gov.ng), the National Planning Commission(nationalplanning.gov.ng), National Malaria Control Programme(nmcp.gov.ng) and National Research Institute for Chemical Technology(narict.gov.ng). On each of the defaced websites the hackers have published a message praising pakistans and their accomplishments.
Currently, only the site of the National planning commission is working. The rest of the websites have been taken offline.

Funke Akindele-Oloyede may have decided to delve into stand-up comedy for a change. The Nollywood actress popular in this part of the world among movie fans for her comic roles is one of the stars billed to perform at the annual comedy show 'Laffmatazz with Gbenga Adeyinka 1 and friends' in Ibadan on Easter day.

HEALTH TALK: OBESITY
WHAT IS OBESITY? Obesity is an excess proprotion of total body fat. Obesity occurs when a person consumes more calories than he or she can burn. It is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive food energy intake, lack of physical activity and genetic susceptibility. The health problems associated with obesity are numerous. It has been linked to several serious medical conditions like heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease and gallstones,gout and breathing problems. It is believed that the more overweight a person is the more likely he or she is to have health problems. A person is considered obese if he or she weighs at least twenty percent more than the maximum healthy weight for his or her height. People with close relatives who have had heart disease or diabetics are more likely to develop these problems if they are obese. People whose weight are concentrated around their stomachs may be at greater risk of developing heart disease, diabetics or cancer than peole of the same weight who carry weight in their hips and buttocks. The good news is that losing a small amount of weight can reduce chances of developing heart disease or stroke. Dieting and physical exercise aer the mainstays of treatment for obesity. Diet quality can be improved by reducing the consumption of foods high in fats and sugar and by increasing the intake of dietary fiber.

God, these blessings are too much for me- Mother of five who delivers premature quadruplets cries out in Kaduna state. What should have been a thing of joy turned sour recently as a mother of five, Mrs Paulina Lucius was delvered of a set of premature quadruplets. The incident took place at the Rural Hospital in Kaura Local Governmenr Area of Kaduna state. The birth of the quadruplets has brought the total number of the woman's children to nine. The husband, Mr Kanvong who is a peasant farmer in Assu-Attakar village, Kaura Local Government of the state was reportedly shocked to have met his wife with four premature children. Confused, he expressed a mixture of joy and worry as he had limited resources to raise the four children.
UNICAL DIMISSED FIVE LECTURERS OVER PLAGIARISM AND FRAUD. University of Calabar have dismissed five lecturers of the institution over plagiarism and fraud. According to Mrs Julia Omang, UNICAL Registrar, four out of the five dismissed lecturers were involved in plagiarism while one of them was invovled in financial fraud. The name of the four plagiarist are:- 1. Dr Azubuike Iloeje 2. Dr Maurice Bison(Dept of English and Literary studies) 3.Mr Oden Ubi (Dept of Marketing) 4. Dr Paulinus Noah(Department of Linguistics and Communication studies) Dr Damian Agom was dismissed for over payment of salary amounting to #7,268,044.95 over a period of eleven months. The most common offense under the academic code of conduct is plagiarism which the code defines as "the presentation of the work of another person as your own".
